June, 2012

My husband Chris, our dog Sophie and I stayed at Cooney Cottage from June 22nd through June 24th. We found the accommodations spacious, clean, comfortable, and friendly. Rachel was a fantastic host who was full of great suggestions; especially for dog friendly activities in the area. Our room was stocked with anything we may need during our stay (iron/ironing board, hangers, TV, alarm clock…etc.) The room was surprisingly open and provided plenty of space for the three of us (even with Sophie’s crate). Breakfast was set up each morning between 8-9 am and consisted of wonderful baked muffins, fresh fruit, bagels, juice, tea, coffee and more.

The location could not have been more ideal. We could easily walk to Easton’s beach, the cliff walk, and anywhere downtown. Second Beach and the local vineyards were only short car rides away. Our favorite dog friendly spots were Sakonnet Vineyards, Greenvale Vineyards, O’Brian’s Pub and the Newport Dog Park. We went on a helicopter ride over the Mansions which was a unique way to see Newport, we would suggest it to anyone. Our big splurge was a dinner at 41 North which was beautiful and we were able to sit outside right on the water.

In the evenings, we sampled some of the new wines and cheeses we discovered, while out on the back deck of Cooney Cottage and enjoyed the landscaped yard. It was a peaceful and relaxing place to wind down at the end of the day. Sophie enjoyed making friends with Rachel! We always felt safe leaving Sophie there while we were out to dinner. We are so happy to have had such a nice 3 day weekend at Cooney Cottage it was just what we were looking for! A big THANK YOU to Rachel for all her helpful suggestions.

We highly recommend Cooney Cottage to couples traveling with or without their dogs. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Cooney Cottage is a comfortable, clean, and affordable place to stay in Newport, RI. It is steps away from the amazing Cliff Walk and a pleasant journey on foot to Touro park, and the historic houses between Thames and Spring Streets. Great home base location for day trips throughout New England. Air conditioning, driveway parking, and dog friendly!
